5 Golden Rules of Dealing With Fibromyalgia

Having been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, I understand the debilitating symptoms you might be suffering from. Of course there’s the pain to contend with. But also so much more, like crippling fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, and insomnia, among other things. It’s hard, while battling so many symptoms, to find relief naturally. So I’ve compiled what I call the “5 Golden Rules of Dealing With Fibromyalgia.”

These things I’m about to discuss have been key to improving my quality of life. And while everyone is different, I feel these things I’m about to reveal will help anyone with fibromyalgia to greatly reduce their symptoms. After suffering for over 10 years — at times being completely bedridden — I’m now living a life where there are times I actually forget that fibromyalgia diagnosis I’m walking around with! And I’m hoping you’ll find the same is true for you after trying some of these solutions I’ve found to help beat fibromyalgia. With that, here’s my 5 Golden Rules of Dealing With Fibromyalgia.

 

Apple Cider Vinegar

This was one of the first fibromyalgia “miracles” I discovered in my journey to feel better. Apple cider vinegar, or ACV for short, helps with many of the symptoms of fibromyalgia. It helps in a few ways, and helps a few different fibromyalgia symptoms. Malic acid inside of ACV helps improve oxygen flow to muscles. Plus it’s packed with trace nutrients to help improve your health and function. Apple cider vinegar helps with joint and muscle pain, along with headaches. It also helps fatigue by providing potassium, which helps with stress and energy levels, And it helps gastrointestinal issues by soothing the colon lining.

To start using ACV, first, get the raw and unfiltered stuff. I use and recommend Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar. I mix a tablespoon in water and drink 3 times a day. You can also rub ACV into sore muscles for relief.

 

Avoid Fluoride

This is HUGE! I know, fluoride is good for your teeth. But in my case, cutting it out of my diet, or at least limiting it as much as possible, immediately helped me with my pain, brain fog, and exhaustion/insomnia. If limiting your fluoride will help you with your fibromyalgia symptoms, you’ll know quickly, within a day or two. So my suggestion would be to limit it for 3 days – as much as possible – and see how you feel. Fluoride is in nearly everything now, since it’s in our drinking water that’s used to make most of the food we buy. But there are steps to avoide it, including:

  • Avoid Tap Water – Chances are your tap water is loaded with fluoride. So switch to water that’s been filtered using reverse osmosis or distillation. Those are the only two ways to get rid of fluoride from your water. Use your reverse osmosis or distilled water for cooking too.
  • Use Fluoride Free Toothpaste and Mouthwash – Many products designed for our teeth contain a lot of fluoride. And it’s a poison, which is why it has directions to call poison control if toothpaste is swallowed. I use Tom’s of Maine toothpaste to clean my teeth without fluoride.
  • Avoid Most Drinks – Other than properly purified water, most drinks contain fluoridated water. And tea has a lot of fluoride naturally, so you’ll want to avoid that as well. I usually drink coffee using reverse osmosis water and organic dairy products.
  • Avoid Canned Foods – These contain fluoride as part of the preservation process.
  • Check Your Medications – Do a quick Google search on any medications you take to see if they contain fluoride. It’s hidden in many. Of course, don’t stop taking a medications without first checking with your doctor.

 

Take a High Grade Multi Vitamin

The right vitamin and supplements can work wonders. I say high-grade, because the last thing we want to do is place something in our body that is hurting, rather than helping. That’s why I’ve been using this product. I can actually feel it working, which usually isn’t the case when I take supplements. It gives me this clean energy that’s not jittery, so I never have that wired/tired feeling. Just energy like I’ve always wanted. And then I sleep like a rock at night. No more insomnia. High Dose Magnesium

I used to take the recommended dosage of magnesium, which is about 400mg a day, and I noticed no difference at all. But it wasn’t until I did research that I found many people with fibromyalgia taking much higher doses of magnesium and noticing some absolutely incredible results. So I tried this high dose magnesium, and within a matter of hours, my muscle pain and anxiety began to melt away. Within 3 days, I no longer had muscle pain and was running around, telling friends and family I was cured from fibromyalgia! I don’t believe I’m cured, but I’ll tell you what …. I no longer wrestle with the pain associated with fibromyalgia!

How much magnesium am I talking about? Well, I take a whopping 1,300mg each day. I take this amount based on weight. Through my research I found that we ingest far more calcium than we do magnesium, when it should be in an equal ratio. Calcium helps muscles contract, and magnesium helps them relax. So if muscles are feeling super tight — like they do with my fibromyalgia — then adding more magnesium, nature’s muscle relaxer, will help the tightness to ease up. I need to add magnesium into my diet because most of us don’t get close to enough, where as we obtain plenty of calcium through diet alone. To make up for this magnesium deficit, I take 5mg per pound of body weight. That means someone weighing just100 pounds would be taking more than the recommended dose.

Yoga

Have you tried it? For me, in the beginning, doing yoga was hard. My muscles felt too tight for many of the easiest of yoga positions, and I would exhaust myself trying to do it. But I was persistent and slowly pushed through my bodies initial protest, and found that eventually, I was able to get into and find relief from many of the positions. My flexibility dramatically improved, along with my stamina. It was a nice, healthy, beneficial exercise I could do in my home. And I found starting out light and working into a more strenuous yoga workout has helped with pain, energy, and mood. Again, check with your doctor first. But working slow with yoga has hugely benefited my fibromyalgia.
