I have a confession; I am in love with coffee. The flavor, the “buzz”, the routine of making it and savoring each sip. It’s a deep love. But I do realize it’s not the healthiest option. And that propelled me to search out some healthier alternatives. Some of the things I have found will still supply your dose of heaven in the form of caffeine. But others are caffeine free alternatives that are perfect for those battling adrenal fatigue or that are caffeine sensitive. Not only are these substitutes for coffee, many help with health issues. I’ve listed these additional health benefits with some of these coffee alternatives below, so you can find the best choice for your personal health needs and goals. With that, here’s some healthier replacements for your morning cup of Joe.
With less caffeine than coffee, green tea is a healthier substitute that tastes great and has several health benefits because it’s packed with antioxidants. An added benefit is that green tea contains l-theanine, an amino acid known for it’s calming properties without causing you to be tired. So it provides a nice balance to the caffeine, helping you not become jittery. Plus, studies show green tea reduces the effects of aging, boosts immunity, reduces cholesterol, helps prevent cancer, and detoxifies the body.
Dandelion Root Tea
For those looking to avoid caffeine all together and want a very healthy coffee substitute, dandelion root tea is a top choice. With a slightly bitter taste, dandelion root is an incredible diuretic for shedding extra water weight. But the benefits don’t stop there. Dandelion root tea is jam-packed with vitamins and other nutrients, making it helpful for weight loss, high blood pressure, removing excess uric acid from the body, fighting off infections, helping anemia, and even helping clear up acne!
Wheatgrass juice has so many benefits, it’s hard to even touch the surface here in this article. I’m hoping to write a more detailed post on this amazing nutrient packed juice. Wheatgrass juice gives a strong energy boost, but not from caffeine. Instead, the boost comes from all the nutrients packed into this powerhouse. Wheatgrass is one of the best sources of chlorophyll, which has so many benefits in itself – including being an excellent natural healer – and also contains every single mineral. Good stuff like magnesium and potassium. It also has a variety of vitamins and contains 17 important amino acids. Wheatgrass gives you a healthy energy boost with no crash, that is so good for helping your body feel it’s best.
Siberian Ginseng Tea
Another great tea with a natural energy boost without caffeine, ginseng tea is a nutrient dense root that helps boost your immune system, improves your concentration and brain function, helps with sexual dysfunction, gives relief from menstrual cramps, and reduces stress. When it comes to a daily morning drink, this is a great choice!
Yes, I promote this beverage like crazy. But only because I love Thrive products. And this is a great substitute for coffee because when you drink it, you don’t have to sacrifice flavor. It tastes like coffee!! It’s packed with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fruit extract for health. And did I mention, it’s not just healthy, but tastes like COFFEE? Free from caffeine, licorice root tea helps the body produce energy, and is yet another perfect alternative for those battling adrenal fatigue. This sweet and a bit spicy drink is also great at supporting the liver, helping with respiratory issues and clearing up mucus, and can also help with weight loss. Also, the glycyrrhizic acid contained in licorice tea helps with adrenal function and cortisol levels, which in turn makes it a helpful aid for those battling depression and anxiety brought on by adrenal fatigue.
Kombucha is a fermented tea that has several health benefits. Along with being a very interesting tasting drink that I’ve really come to like, kombucha is helpful for detoxification, helping digestion, helps prevent and cure things like diabetes, arthritis and cancer, and helps lower cholesterol.
Shizandra is one of the highest highest antioxidant berries, packed with health benefits. Known as the “longevity herb”, shizandra helps support cellular function, which in turn makes this a powerful berry for anti-aging. Prized in China, this coffee alternative is a liver cleanser, helps with skin health, increases brain activity, boosting concentration and memory, and helps those suffering from ADHD, helps your body handle stress better, boosts your immune system and invigorates sexual endurance, and even helps increase you sleep better, making it a great choice for those that want energy and mental clarity during the day, but suffer from insomnia.
